Moving day tips & tricks

Stay organized with this handy moving checklist. Don’t be overwhelmed by the details. We’ve compiled advice from some of our most experienced moving experts.

The First Night Box
Surviving the first night in your new home can be difficult without the right supplies. We recommend you pack a “first night” box with items you’ll need for basic unpacking, cleaning, eating and hygiene.
Non-Allowable Items
CDK is dedicated to the safe transport of your household goods. Hazardous items that pose a potential threat to the health and safety of United movers (i.e. explosives, flammable gases and toxic substances) should not be packed into your shipment.
Pack Small Valuables Separately
It is better to be safe than sorry when packing your personal valuables. Items that require additional security or special access are better kept in your personal vehicle during a move.
New Home Move In To Do List
Moving into a new home involves much more than just relocating your belongings. You need to re-establish your local support system, set up new accounts and notify government agencies of your new address. Here are a hand full of often overlooked items you should consider prior to moving day.
Unpacking at Destination
After surviving the tedium of prepping, packing, moving out and traveling – move-in day will feel like a breeze. Approach the day with a plan in-hand and you won’t have a problem settling in to your new home.
Packing 101
Start with out-of-season items. Next, pack things used infrequently. Leave until last the things you'll need until moving day.
Pre-Packing Checklist
Stock up on packing supplies. Moving boxes, bubble wrap, packing foam, packing tape, plastic totes – anything and everything you can gather ahead of time will help when it’s time to begin packing.
Moving Boxes & Supplies
Small boxes are ideal for heavy or fragile items that must be packed on their own to ensure ease of handling.
